This CODE supported NVQ qualification takes the team member 9-18 months to complete with the full support of the CODE assessor. The candidate will have projects and continual assessments by email and phone with two visits from the assessor (the CODE CQC consultant). The first visit will be to set up the program and complete the NVQ documentation, the second will be for the NVQ assessment at the end of the course.
The candidate must work in a practice who has CODE membership and Clinical Governance Made Simple subscription.
The competencies will be based on outcomes 12 onwards from Essential Standards of Quality and Safety, using the healthcare NVQ's and the CODE 'practice in a box' for the underpinning knowledge. The subjects will cover:

- Discipline
- Induction Training
- Performance appraisal and review
- Staffing levels, management and support
- Training needs analysis
- Personal development plans
- Learning and development - CPD
- Facility management
- Suppliers and services engineers management
What is an NVQ
NVQ stands for National Vocational Qualification. It is a 'competence-based' qualification: this means you learn practical, work-related tasks designed to help you develop the skills and knowledge to do a job effectively. NVQs are based on national standards for various occupations. The standards say what a competent person in a job could be expected to do. As you progress through the course, you compare your skills and knowledge with these standards as you learn, so you can see what you need to do to meet them.

The CODE supported NVQ course includes three days of consultancy with two at the practice and one by phone or email.
The cost of the NVQ course is £2,550 per person plus VAT including the NVQ registration and assessment fee. Note that the practice must be a CODE and CGMS member. Grants may be available, please contact CODE for details of how to obtain a grant.
